So I’m halfway through re-reading my Anita Blake novels. I kinda want to let people know about good choices you should be making within all accounts of media from film to books to games. Because I am just a huge nerd and I love nothing more then pre-ordering a ton of games and sitting down to read a good book after spending far too much money on these damn media outlets.
I’ve always read good and bad things about L.Hamiltons work, especially focused on her Anita Blake series. For all those new to this her series is about a vampire hunter / necromancer / animator / somtimes lupa to the werewolf ulfric / sometimes shifter-leopard queen / sometimes bounty hunter. She has a long list of jobs and hobbies which include fornicating with a werewolf and a master vampire, passing out (a lot) and getting into shoot outs with bad guys. If that isn’t selling it for you don’t worry, these are not novels for Twi-hards to pick up, they’re not novels for 14 year old girls obsessed with Edward Cullen. They’re gritty, violent and include scenes of death and sex. I’m currently onto the seventh book out of roughly (what seems like) a hundred more to follow. This certain book is focused on a pyromanic (of sorts) who’s throwing himself around the city of saint louis setting Vampire hangouts and businesses on fire. In the mean time Anita, who working with the police to catch this firebug is also involved in her usual whirlwind romance between the master vampire of the city and the werewolf ulfric king, while babysitting the leopard pack because she killed their last leader. It seems she never has a moment to sleep, and she rarely does sleep which leaves you asking the question, how is she still so alert to fight off all the assassins and bad guys? The answer, no normal person could, but this is not normal right? The series itself are good if you want something more then sparkling vampires and an emotional lead female who always has a moody aura. They’re not as hardcore as the Sookie Stackhouse / True Blood verse but they’re somewhere in the middle. I suggest at least picking up the first book Guilty Pleasures and giving it a chance if you like everything I’ve mentioned.
